This LeMonde article discusses the necessity of a strategic and secure cloud at the European level, as notably supported by the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, in which EU Member States and undertakings could store sensitive data, in the context of the current primacy of American and Chinese actors in the storage of world data.
The possible future reality and the importance of a European sovereign cloud for trusted relationships through digital technology and the enhanced competitiveness of the European Union against the background of Europe’s superior ability to reconcile technology with fairness, quality and sustainability have been observed and underlined in the Hidden Treasures book (2019) (Chapter 10, e.g. at 188-193).
